Season Overview

Director of player personnel Marshall Johnston was promoted to general manager after Rick Dudley departed for Tampa Bay. The Senators' style of play had changed markedly from their early days. Penalty minutes amounted to 850, less than half of each of the first two seasons (1,716 and 1,710 respectively). As Alexei Yashin sat out the season over a contract dispute, the Senators produced five 50-point men: Daniel Alfredsson (21-38-59), Radek Bonk (23-37-60), Marian Hossa (29-27-56), Shawn McEachern (29-22-51) and Vaclav Prospal (22-33-55).
