Season Overview

With Randy Sexton assuming general manager duties for the departed Mel Bridgman, the Senators slowly began building its foundation in 1993-94. Of the 20 players in the Senators' first-game lineup, 13 were not with the club in 1993-94. Two rookies, Alexei Yashin and Alexandre Daigle led the Senators offence.

Season Highlights

Oct. 14, 1993 Ottawa scored four goals in the second period against John Vanbiesbrouck of the Florida Panthers to set a club record.
Oct. 23, 1993 Ottawa tied the club record set on Oct. 14 when it scored four goals in one period against Ron Hextall of the New York Islanders.
Nov. 3, 1993 The Senators' 7-5 win over Edmonton set a club record for most goals scored in one game. The record was tied two days later in a 7-6 win over Winnipeg. Alexei Yashin recorded a hat trick and the game-winner.
Nov. 5, 1993 After going down 6-3 early in the game, Ottawa fights back to force overtime, eventually winning the game 7-6 in the extra frame at Winnipeg. Bob Kudelski scored three goals on eight shots, including the overtime winner. Alexei Yashin had four assists. It was also the Senators' third win in a row the first time in franchise history.
Nov. 11, 1993 The Senators recorded 46 shots against goalie Mark Fitzpatrick in a 5-4 loss.
Nov. 27, 1993 Darrin Madeley made 47 saves for a club record at Pittsburgh. The teams played to a 2-2 draw. Madeley matched that record the following January in a 2-2 tie at Vancouver.
Jan. 18, 1994 Sylvain Turgeon scored at 1:23 of overtime to give Ottawa a 4-3 win over Edmonton in Ottawa. It was the team's fastest overtime goal.
March 20, 1994 Dennis Vial recorded a club-record six penalties in one game in a 6-2 loss at Buffalo. He was assessed 34 penalty minutes, 27 of which came in the third period. The Senators were assessed 25 penalties in total, for 89 minutes.
March 23, 1994 The Senators scored four goals in the final period against Bob Essensa in its 5-4 victory over the Detroit Red Wings at Ottawa. The four goals tied a club record set earlier that season on Oct. 14 against Florida and Oct. 23 against Ron Hextall of the New York Islanders.
April 7, 1994 Ottawa scored three power-play goals in the second period to set a club record in a 5-4 loss at Boston.
